Calibrate focus – 7artisans 55mm F1.4 lens---by Iurii Zvonar

My 7artisans 55mm F1.4 lens sample for Fuji X mount had the focusing problem.

I was not able to focus further than about 50ft. Everything furhter was blurred in

spite lens focus mark was at infinity mark.

Typically it means that focus position is a bit shifted toward the target. Optics need

to be positioned a bit closer to the camera. Fortunately 7artisans engineers provide

simple built in classic solution – calibration shims.

You will need small screwdriver for this focus calibration of 7artisans 55mm F1.4. It

works for Fuji X mount version, but I think another mounts have the same design.

Focus Calibration Steps:

1.unscrew three silver bolts from the rear mount ring, remember ring position (where

the white dot is located, it’s close to the lettering on the lens side)

2.pull out the mount ring, you will see two silver metal circles – that are calibration

shims.

3.take out one of the shims, and assemble the mount ring back。

It was enough for me to remove one of the shims. They are actually serving for

precise focus calibration, but looks like 7artisans factory test lens on differently

calibrated camera mount. After that fix my 7artisans 55mm F1.4 is precisely

focusing at infinity with wide open F1.4.

Single shim thickness is 0.2mm, so two of them are 0.4mm thick. If your focus

still can’t reach the infinity, try to remove both of that shims.

Alternatively if your focus is bypassing the infinity, it’s quite easy to cut similar

shim from thin metal (e.g. soda can) and add to the lens.
