I was looking for alternative to Fujifilm lenses for my Fujifilm X-T20 when I first heard of 7artisans.
They seem to have a lot of good lenses for a very reasonable price. This one, the 7artisans 35mm F/1.2 is sell
for around 150€. I received the lens in a nice black box. In this box we found a manual and the lens itself.
The very first impression : the lens is very small. It seems pretty solid (weighs 155g) and fit well on the Fuji.
Despite you have to deal with manual focus when you get a 7artisans lens (which explain the price), this make
the use of the lens funnier. The aperture is very smooth, and is de-clicked (the aperture ring doesn't have detents) and this is really cool, especially for videos. But in the same time we didn't really know on which aperture we're on (that is not a problem for me).
The cap is made of metal, and it stands better than Fuji's caps (I find that Fujifilm's caps fall off easely with a little friction).
One of the benefits of this lens is its size. It's very compact and fit very well on mirrorless cameras. You can bring the lens everywhere.
The 7artisans 35mm F/1.2 is a pretty fast lens. At F/1.2, the lens isn't the sharpest lens on the market, but isn't the worst neither. It is a little challen going to get things in focus because of the small area the lens procure on F/1.2. But it's really fun and you can play with it ! If you use a Fuji Camera you can activate the focus peaking mode to help.
The bokeh of this lens is very pleasant with its 9 diaphragm blades.
Here are some samples taken at F/1.2:
The lens does provide some red flare which can be fun to play with.
As said before, at F/1.2 the lens isn't the sharpest lens on earth. But for the price, it's totally fine and usable in a lot
of situation. At F/2 the lens begin to be very sharp.
For a ridiculous price, the 35mm F/1.2 from 7artisans is a very good choice. It fits the Fujifilm X-T20 perfectly, and it's a
pleasure to manipulate the aperture and focus rings. With its light weighs, it's easy to bring it everywhere. Although it's
a little soft at F/1.2, suffer from some flare and distorsion , it's totally usable, and at F/2 totally fine.
